I’ve had a positive reaction every time I use the tool.
Your weaknesses are an over-expression of your strengths
Let’s explain with a few examples:
- When someone is being a micromanager, maybe it’s because they’re a perfectionist
- If someone is indecisive, maybe it’s because they are inclined to seek consensus
- When someone seems uncaring, maybe it’s because they value efficiency above all else
Typically when we see an undesired characteristic or behaviour in a co-founder or team member, we see it as something that needs to be fixed.
I’m going to share a whole new approach with you, introduced to me by my friend Hugo from
ForChiefs.
Example: I was too visionary and it came across as non-inclusive
Being CEO is a tough job. One of the responsibilities I had was creating a strong vision and direction for the company.
This was something that came naturally for me and I was able to jump into the future and imagine what the company would be like years from now.
While this was a strength, the flipside was that me being visionary left my other co-founders left behind.
The goal: Combine your strength with your challenge
My core quality was being visionary. My challenge was co-creation. Going forward, I needed to combine the two.
I could then explore this by asking myself:
- What are 5 ways I can bring others along on my story?
- How will I know that I’ve reached “diluted vision”?
- Who’s going to call me out when I’m not bringing others along?
